What it felt like to be heard
Real anonymous reflections from people who found a little more room to breathe.
“I didn't know what exactly I wanted to talk about.”
I just knew something had been off for a few days. Starting mein thoda awkward laga because I genuinely didn't know what to say. But slowly, the conversation just happened. It felt nice to speak without constantly thinking, 'Am I oversharing?'
“For once, I didn't have to be the one holding everything together.”
Ghar ki responsibilities, sabki needs, sabke liye available rehna… I had become so used to handling everything that I didn't even realise how much I was carrying. I had people around me, but I didn't really have a space to talk about how I was feeling. Being heard without advice or judgement made me feel much lighter.
“I'm the one everyone depends on. But I get tired too.”
I've been the breadwinner for my family for years. There are responsibilities, expectations, and people depending on you. But sometimes I feel tired too. The difficult part is that you don't really feel like you can say that to your family. You're supposed to keep going. Being able to say it out loud, without having to be strong for someone else, felt like a relief.
“I think I just needed someone who wasn't involved in my life.”
There were things I had been keeping to myself because I didn't want opinions or advice. I had people around me, but talking to someone outside my circle felt different. I didn't have to worry about what they thought, who they knew, or what would happen after the conversation. It was actually quite freeing.
“I didn't realise how lonely I could feel while being with someone.”
I'm married, and from the outside, everything probably looks fine. But emotionally, I often felt like something was missing. There were things I wanted to talk about and things I wanted to feel understood about, but I didn't know where to put all of it. Here, I could talk about what was actually going on inside me without having to defend why I felt that way.
“Mujhe laga tha main bas vent karungi.”
But baat karte karte I realised ki main actually ek hi cheez ko lekar kaafi time se hurt thi. Bas usko ignore karke baaki sab pe irritate ho rahi thi. 😂 Didn't expect one conversation to make me realise that.
“I don't usually talk about personal things.”
Work, family, responsibilities — you just get used to handling things yourself. I wouldn't say one conversation fixed anything, because that's unrealistic. But I felt lighter afterwards. And more importantly, I understood what had actually been bothering me.
“The anonymity helped more than I thought it would.”
Friends hain mere, but unke saamne kuch bolne se pehle 10 baar sochti hoon because they know everyone involved. 😅 Yahan woh tension nahi thi. I could say exactly what I was feeling without giving explanations or worrying about what happens after the conversation. That was honestly a relief.
